Debt Relief Process: Using Negotiation Services

It helps to understand a typical debt relief process as provided by a credit negotiator. This is a very loose interpretation of what is expected of you when you are attempting this very beneficial process.

State I

The amount of debt you have is calculated. Then, a repayment plan is set and the fee for the debt relief negotiation and/or budgeting services is determined.

Sometimes the amount you pay for these services is based on income while other times providers expect a flat payment. Usually during Stage I it is also determined how much long it is expected to take for you to repay money you owe.

State II

This is the time in which negotiations are usually made. In order for this process to be successful your counselor has to have all of your paperwork. It also is highly recommended that you furnish them with names and contact information of your creditors.

Chances are though they do have some of the contact information of creditors. However, if they do not they will usually ask you to fill out a form that gives them all the information they need. This will help them reach an agreement when they call a creditor.

Usually during the phone calls made to creditors a debt relief counselor will talk terms. They will try to work in favor of the debtor as much as possible. However, in the event they cannot they will do their best to find a solution that satisfies both the creditor and the debtor.

Stage III

Repayment arrangements have been set by now. This is the time when you begin to pay back your bills according to the agreements made between you and the professional negotiator.

There is the possibility of becoming involved in a repayment program that allows you to pay once lump sum every month to a professional negotiator and budget counselor. This will free you from the time it takes to figure out your bills.

However, you may be responsible for the bill repayment process-that is actually writing out the checks or sending the money electronically (or by phone). However, it should not take you as long as before because chances are the debt relief counselor has created a budget for you.

Advantages

Seeking debt relief via a professional negotiator can save you loads of legal trouble. It also can stop you from having to file bankruptcy which no one wants to do.
